How to Join the Center for the Built Environment

Joining CBE, and gaining access to numerous membership benefits, is a simple process.

Membership Agreements

Membership in the CBE consortium is obtained by signing a participation agreement with the University. This agreement describes the details of CBE membership, including member benefits, confidentiality, and intellectual property terms. Membership agreements are administered by the University's Industry Alliances Office. View the standard membership agreement (pdf) .

Sponsoring Memberships

Special cost sharing arrangements with UC Berkeley allow CBE to reduce overhead and administrative costs to maximize partner investment in our research projects. As a result, the sponsoring annual membership fee of $35,000 provide partners with access to a research portfolio with annual funding over $1 million.

A/E/C Memberships

The Center staff and industry partners agree that the participation of leading architecture, engineering, and construction (A/E/C) firms is important to the Center's success. Because research investment in these types of companies is generally modest, CBE allows individual A/E/C firms to join with a $12,000 annual membership.

Small Business Memberships

CBE staff and faculty worked with industry member leadership in fall 2009 to create membership tiers for small businesses, acknowledging the financial constraints of small firms and startups. The table of membership levels, benefits, and fees explains the details.
