Junmeng (Patrick) Lyu is a Ph.D. student in Building Technology at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. His research focuses on developing occupant-centric intelligent control systems that enhance individual thermal comfort while improving energy efficiency.

His doctoral work includes: (1) Developing a facial thermal imaging–based model to evaluate individual thermal sensations; (2) Designing coordinated fan–air-conditioner control algorithms based on personalized thermal comfort models; and (3) Building sensing networks in real-world settings and implementing a large language model-based agent to interpret optimal control objectives and assist in decision-making for multiple indoor devices—including air conditioners, fans, lighting, air purifiers, and automated windows. In his framework, physiological signals, environmental data, and natural language inputs are jointly used to achieve adaptive occupant-centric control, addressing multiple dimensions of comfort, including thermal, acoustic, air quality, and lighting factors.

His broader interests include data-driven studies of urban-scale energy-use behaviors; he has conducted an analysis of air-conditioning usage patterns in Shanghai and plans to extend this work to other cities. In October 2025, he joined the CBE, working with Professional Researcher Hui Zhang to further explore personal comfort system control.
