Urwa is an MS student in Building Science, Technology, and Sustainability at UC Berkeley. She received a BS in Architectural Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology in 2022, where she was an undergraduate research assistant with the Built Environment Research Group studying system energy performance including steam radiators on campus and motorized insulating shades in a high-rise office building.

Before joining CBE, Urwa was a mechanical engineer at SmithGroup in Chicago, working on HVAC systems, controls design and internal tool development. There, she contributed to a variety of workplace, cultural, higher ed and laboratory projects across the country. She is an active member of ASHRAE, previously serving as a committee chair for the Illinois chapter. She is also a LEED BD+C accredited professional.

Urwa is currently a graduate student researcher at CBE, working on a decarbonization analysis tool for use in the early design stages of a project. Additionally, she is interested in exploring building infiltration calculation processes and developing guidelines for pressurization control with a focus on airside energy recovery performance.
