Dr. Xianfu (Robin) Wan is an Associate Professor at Donghua University, formerly known as China Textile University. His research centers on clothing thermal comfort, aiming to enhance human thermal well-being through innovations in clothing systems.

Dr. Wan’s work integrates air-conditioning engineering, computer science, and textile technology, reflecting a highly interdisciplinary background. His research focuses on three primary areas:

  1. Establishing numerical models to analyze heat and moisture transfer in clothing systems;
  2. Developing novel measurement methods and devices to evaluate thermal and moisture comfort;
  3. Designing and fabricating functional and smart clothing that improve comfort and adaptability.

With a strong foundation in automation and programming, Dr. Wan teaches courses on automation applications in the apparel and textile industry. He has developed embedded systems for smart clothing and textile applications, incorporating sensors and control algorithms to achieve intelligent thermal regulation.

Dr. Wan has led several projects applying artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in the apparel and textile domain, utilizing data-driven methods to optimize comfort assessment, garment design, and production processes.

At the University of California, Berkeley, Dr. Wan aims to further explore human–clothing–environment interactions and contribute to the development of intelligent thermal comfort systems. His interdisciplinary expertise bridges thermal comfort research, automation and embedded systems, and AI-driven wearable technologies, supporting collaborative innovation across engineering and design disciplines.
