Chai Yoon Um is a PhD student in the Building Science, Technology, and Sustainability program at UC Berkeley. She received her BS and MS in Architectural Engineering from Yonsei University. Her research focuses on improving indoor air quality by optimizing ventilation strategies.

Before joining CBE, Chai worked as a researcher at Yonsei University. She mainly focused on indoor air quality analysis and air pollutant modeling, especially on particulate matter. She also worked on projects focused on occupant sensing and building control.
