Mario is a Senior Postdoctoral Researcher at the Berkeley Education Alliance for Research in Singapore (BEARS). His current work focuses on the HEATS project, leveraging the Cozie app for the Apple Watch to gather subjective feedback and physiological data. He also employs Just-in-time Adaptive Interventions (JITAI) and indoor environmental quality (IEQ) sensors to improve sleep health in tropical climates.

Before joining the BEARS, Mario was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the National University of Singapore (NUS), where he used smartwatches for environmental momentary assessments (EMA) to investigate human comfort in the built environment. Mario earned his Doctor of Science (Dr. Sc.) degree at ETH Zurich. His doctoral research explored the potential of wireless sensor networks for building retrofit assessments. During his doctoral studies, he was awarded the ETH Zurich Architecture and Technology Fellowship (2016 – 2019) Mario holds a Master of Science (MSc) and a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Mechanical Engineering from ETH Zurich, Switzerland.
