Xia Chen, a Ph.D. candidate at Technische Universität Berlin and Leibniz Universität Hannover, is a researcher and lecturer in the field of sustainable building systems. Xia’s research encompasses a blend of first-principles methods and data-driven approaches, with a strong focus on augmented intelligence and human-computer interaction in decision-making process support.

Xia’s dissertation, “Beyond Predictions – A Knowledge-integrated Machine Learning Framework for Augmented Intelligence in Decision Making,” supervised by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Philipp Geyer, is a work in integrating domain knowledge with robust machine learning techniques for building energy performance prediction. This work has been part of the German Research Foundation project, which evaluates building design variants based on adaptive detailing strategies, demonstrating a focus on advanced machine learning modeling, knowledge engineering, causal inference, and sustainability.

As a lecturer, Xia has contributed significantly to courses in ‘Data Sciences for Energy-Efficient Design’ and ‘Data Sciences for Design and Engineering’, imparting cutting-edge knowledge in the intersection of data science and sustainable design.
