Postdoctoral Researcher
Dr Xiaojun Fan joined the Berkeley Education Alliance for Research in Singapore (BEARS) as a senior postdoctoral researcher in June 2024. With a strong background in HVAC systems, his research of interest lies in sustainable IEQ design and optimization to enhance human health and performance in an environment-friendly manner. At BEARS, Xiaojun is working on the HEATS project, developing cooling solutions to improve sleep health in warm climates.
Before joining BEARS, Xiaojun was a scientific assistant at ETH Zurich, where he researched high-performance and low-emission cooling systems to leverage the conflicts of providing high IEQ and its high energy consumption. Xiaojun earned his PhD at the Technical University of Denmark in 2023 and an MSc from Central South University, China in 2019 where he specialized in building ventilation, IAQ, heat exposure, and human resilience.
Dr Fan has received several awards and scholarships in recognition of his research contribution, including the prestigious Professor P. Ole Fanger’s Award, the Otto Mønsteds Fond, and the S.C. Van Foundation scholarship. He actively participates in international professional organizations, including ASHRAE and ISIAQ, where he serves as the secretary of STC 34.
