Award Winner 2016
Pflugerville, TX
Cele Middle School represents a new beginning for its school district by providing a facility that would respond to 21st century learning models without compromising efficient design and on budget. The project team has been working with the district to come up with a prototype model; this school, their sixth remodel, was an opportunity to improve upon previous designs in many ways. The school, home to 1,100 students in grades 6 through 8, focuses on collaborative learning spaces and sustainable practices that allow the building to be a teaching tool for the students and community. The building was designed to provide natural daylight to every classroom, paired with efficient artificial lighting, to significantly reduce the overall amount of energy consumed.
Survey Results
Cele Middle School had 100% participation for their post-occupancy evaluation, and scored high in many of the core survey areas.
Project Comments
“We could not be more honored to receive the Center for Built Environment’s prestigious Livable Buildings Award. It is wonderful to be recognized for strong aesthetics, but it is even greater when the energy performance and feedback from the users is what makes a building stand out.”
