Michelle Malanca Frey was the keynote speaker for CBE’s Industry Advisory Board session in October 2021. In this talk she presents current trends and possible futures that lead towards building electrification, adoption of distributed energy resources, vehicle-to grid-integration, as well as creative branding concepts that may accelerate the adoption of these important technical and societal changes.

    Executive Director, Urban Land Institute San Francisco

    Presentation: Power to the People: The Next Wave in Clean Energy

    Michelle Malanca Frey is the Executive Director of the Urban Land Institute San Francisco. Since joining ULI she has collaborated with members to launch a number of initiatives, including Housing the Bay. Michelle currently serves on the Executive Steering Committee of the Mayor of San Francisco’s Zero Emission Building Task Force. In 2019, she was a recipient of the Northern California Real Estate Woman of Influence Award from the San Francisco Business Times. Prior to this, Michelle was Vice President at the World Green Building Council and led global initiatives and campaigns to accelerate the uptake of sustainable buildings and address climate change. As Technical Director at the Green Building Council of Australia, she chaired multi-stakeholder processes to develop green building rating tools and transform the real estate industry. Under her own consultancy, she has worked with public, private and nonprofit organizations, developing green building rating systems and integrating sustainability initiatives into large real estate projects and portfolios.
